Gurgaon, India – An introduction to daily life

Many of you think that Meenal and I are having a great time in India. You won’t understand a city until you live in it and after 6 months in Delhi, we identified with this article in the New York Times: In India, Dynamism Wrestles With Dysfunction, June 8, 2011.

Quality of life in India is low for every social strata and you should set your expectations accordingly. We’ve usually heard 1 of 4 reasons for moving to India: a desire to be close to family, visa problems in America, hopes of a better career in India or need for family/paid help for raising children. From our experience, you will need to find enough pleasure in your India reason for the move to the worthwhile. The NYT article will add some realism to your plans.

Prashant/Meenal, It’s almost the end of your first year in India. Where is the experiment headed from here? Can we expect inferences or will the experiment continue?
Regardless, thank you for this blog. I moved to Gurgaon from Delaware about 3 days back and your blog was a lot of help.
